ABB has selected International Battery's lithium-ion batteries as part of its overall energy-storage system for the power distribution network of Swedish utility Falbygdens Energi AB, a subsidiary of Goteborg Energi AB.
ABB's grid-tied distributed energy-storage system (DES) incorporates International Battery's large-format lithium-iron phosphate HyperClass batteries, which will provide 87 kWh of storage capacity.
According to International Battery, the storage system will help Falbygdens Energi balance peak loads, enhance grid stability and help facilitate the integration of renewable energy for current and future smart grid applications.
The DES is planned for installation later this year and will be part of an existing substation in the city of Falkoping, enabling the storage of locally produced energy from wind turbines.
